Included in the 10.5.8 update is the latest version of Apple’s Safari Web browser, version 4.0.2, which was first released last month, as well as an improvement for full-history searches in the browser.
In addition to the AirPort improvements, Mac OS X 10.5.8 features a number of other network-related fixes, such as improved iCal reliability with MobileMe Sync and CalDav, improved data reliability issues with iDisk and MobileMe, overall improvements to AFP reliability, and improved Sync Service reliability.
On the device front, the update brings additional RAW image support for third-party cameras, improved compatibility with some external USB hard drives, a fix for an issue that could prevent importing large photo and movie files from digital cameras, and the aforementioned Bluetooth improvements for external devices, USB Web cameras, and printers.
The 10.5.8 update also addresses an issue that could cause extended startup times and fixes a problem with dragging Aperture images into Automator, which had been incorrectly triggering an iPhoto action.

A collection of human gene-specific reference genomic sequences. RefSeq gene is a subset of NCBI’s RefSeq database, and are defined based on review from curators of locus-specific databases and the genetic testing community. They form a stable foundation for reporting mutations, for establishing consistent intron and exon numbering conventions, and for defining the coordinates of other biologically significant variation. RefSeqGene is a part of the Locus Reference Genomic (LRG) Collaboration.

Note: This is a little off topic of my usual blog posts dealing with media and technology, but our society is at an important inflection point and I wanted to put some thoughts out there to generate a different type of conversation.
Events of the past quarter-century have re-defined the course of American politics, leading to seismic shifts in the very fabric of our society. Any modicum of accountability by individuals and businesses have in many cases been abandoned; politicians are elected not by the policies they claim to espouse but based upon social media trends driven by sound bites and high decibel vitriol and rhetoric; and entrepreneurs know that if their product/business fails, they are more than likely to see a soft landing via an acqui-hire versus having to deal with the very real lesson of failure. Even the much talked about but least understood millennial generation, who grew up with helicopter parents and participation trophies, expects to be “provided for” whether by the companies that employ them or the Government.
As a society we’ve hidden ourselves behind television sets and social media feeds. Forgetting that what we were seeing and actually participating in was just a show – an illusion made for public consumption but never meant to be taken literally. Unfortunately the illusion has become reality and the effects of this will be far-reaching and long lasting.
As a parent I can’t help worrying about my son’s generation - those old enough to start understanding what kind of world they are entering into but still young enough not to have participated in what can be considered to be the potential collapsing of our republic.
I'm now calling this generation: Armageddon’s Children.
While that may be overly dramatic, I think the generational moniker is very apt. We bear the brunt of the blame for this, but I also believe three key constituencies have helped “lead the conversation” in getting us to where we are today. This is not an indictment or an attempt to troll on any of these groups, but they have wielded undeniable influence over our society and these issues bear looking into.
Media: As someone who’s worked in media for the better part of two decades, our media is a shell of it’s former self. Players for mac os x. From sound bites, sensationalistic stories and questionable fact checking, to pundits/anchors/authors striving to make themselves more important than the story itself - today’s media and journalism is almost entirely geared towards driving increased viewership, page views and ad impressions. Effectively turning the Fourth Estate into one of the four horseman of the apocalypse.
As Dave Pell stated in his recent post on Medium titled A Picture is Worth a Thousand Trolls:
“The rage we see coming from the professionals on television and the Internet is part of a grand messaging scheme intended to increase interest in the campaign, drive turnout, and deliver money into the pockets of everyone from the operatives to the cable networks. But something went wrong. The viewers stopped realizing they were watching a show. They acted like they were watching reality TV (if reality TV were real). When the pundits went home and dropped their arguments … the viewers went online to carry on the rage. What was faux for the pundits was entirely real for the viewers.”
It’s become a vicious cycle, but we can and must do better.
Venture Capital: This one is a bit more difficult. Venture Capital (and other sources of investment capital) supplies the fuel that our economy (and thus our society) runs on. Where we’ve run into trouble time after time is the herd mentality that is pervasive not only among this investor class, but by in large, their portfolio companies as well.
Case in point: Google was one of the early companies to provide significant benefits to its employees, primarily as a means to keep them happy and most importantly productive. What started out as generous free food, parking, etc., grew to include daycare, laundry service, free shuttles, massages and free fitness and gym classes to name just a few.
What people forget or simply don’t realize is that Google was literally printing cash. As it got closer to filing for its IPO, it needed to reduce its cash flow to better manage expectations on Wall Street. While there are many ways a company can reduce its cash flows, Google chose to lavish some of this on the employees that have helped make Google the exceptional company that it is.
However, what was once the domain of extremely successful companies like Google, became table stakes for companies of all sizes. Rather than attracting talent with a ground breaking new product and exciting vision, potential employees were now expecting generous packages and lavish benefits that rivaled mighty Google. Soon, start-ups were leasing and building out office space that Fortune 500 companies would have trouble justifying on their balance sheets. All aided and abetted by the increasing sums of money being poured into companies who were told to grow at all costs - many of which never had a viable product or business to begin with. How else could a 10 person team with no product land a $40 million Series A from one of the Valley’s most prominent investors?
This distortion of reality and the social dislocation it has created, while scoffed at six months ago by the seers of Sand Hill Road, is now causing them real concern. The problem is that the effects of this bubble bursting won't just be financial, but societal as well.
Politics: I could easily sum this section up and just say: TRUMP. But that would be too simplistic. The history of the United States is one of implosions and explosions of the differing political parties, and the current state of affairs is no different at its core, but significantly different at the edge.
For those on the left finding joy in the absolute shit-storm of the 2016 Republican presidential contest, they should recall the Democratic Convention of 1924 where the most powerful voting block of the DNC was in fact the Ku Klux Klan. Fist fights, disorder, religious and racial bigotry were rampant – kinda sounds like Florida earlier this week!
Well it’s one thing for this to happen in 1924, but in 2016, a small brush fire quickly turns into a conflagration, fanned in large part by the massive influence of social media which along with our national news organizations, has the power to amplify BOTH hope and hate. So far the latter is winning out over the former.

ICF Residents visit Camp Solgohachia!
Our ICF residents attended Camp Solgohachia this month. Camp Solgohachia is located on a 325 acre mountain top in Solgohachia, Arkansas. The camp reached out to Pathfinder to invite our ICF residents to experience the activities offered. Each ICF spent a day at the camp where they were able to enjoy swimming, fishing, go-karts, music, and more. This was an extra special occasion as the outing was the first day trip/overnight trip that our ICF residents were able to attend since the start of COVID in March 2020. The residents had a great time!
Community Helping Community
On Saturday April 10 and Saturday April 17, Pathfinder Preschool was graced with the volunteer work of University of Arkansas- Pulaski Technical College’s Phi Theta Kappa. They heard that our garden was in need of repair and repalnting due to the struggles through our Covid year. Phi Theta Kappa advisors, Jessica Wise and Amanda Kennedy, led their team in rolling up their sleeves and grinding away in the mud to clean up, and replant our gardens. Delana Crutti, Phi Theta Kappa officer, grew vegetables and fruit in her greenhouse and donated all that was planted. The garden is beaming with squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, snap peas, watermelon, pumpkins, peppers, grape vines and more. Flowers, bird houses, a bird bath and ferns were donated by other students of the organization. The Phi Theta Kappa team were joined by myself and three of my staff, Ms Mirian, Ms Amada and Ms Desiree who gave their time and muscle to assist in the garden revival. In addition, two of Central Arkansas Christian School's students, Ava and Joshua Wise, used the garden opportunity as a way to 'give to the community' during their school's 'Caring About Community” campaign. Ava and Joshua said, “This was our best day ever' as they took great pride in their hard work. In addition to the clean up and planting, 100 bags of mulch was spread!
It was amazing and overwhelming to see the love, joy and giving Phi Theta Kappa brought to our school. They were positive, energetic and have decided to take our school garden on as an every spring event. Saying thank you doesn't seem like enough for the blessings this amazing group brought to us. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society that promotes academic excellence and excellence is what they demonstrated in this project. We were honored to present Phi Theta Kappa with a leaf to attach to our garden wall of donations. My staff and I were truly inspired. Children's Week (April 12-16) 2021
consisted of 'Making Amazing Things Happen (MATH)'
We celebrated with the Math Olympics. The children began the week with a torch run where they also picked up quilt pieces to be decorated by every child and staff in the building. Throughout the week they participated and competed in math games. The week ended on Friday with a run through the finish line for all participants where each class brought their completed quilt pieces, which will be sewn together to make our Pathfinder Preschool quilt. The quilt will represent the unity we all have in working together to provide the best for our clients. Each child received a trophy and a math skills ribbon. They ended the day celebrating with cupcakes! The children had a wonderful time making amazing things happen with math.

Jonesboro ADC has started a Monthly Service Challenge. The March challenge was to collect soda can tabs for Ronald McDonald House at St. Judes. Every month this year we are challenging our clients to participate in a service project. We had a contest between all the clients for the most collected and then we challenged EastArk Enterprises to a contest as well, with the winner earning an ice cream party! Recognition and Kindness
In October 2020, a person assigned to my caseload passed away. The person left behind a parakeet (named Pretty Boy) that had nowhere to go. I remembered that the residents at Plaza Group Home had a parakeet (named Silver) in their care. So, I asked the residential manager, Anita Washington, if they had room for one more parakeet. Anita said she would have to discuss it with the residents at Plaza because the residents would be the ones responsible for the bird’s care. Anita later informed me that the residents uniformly agreed to take on the responsibility of caring for another parakeet. Whenever I visit the Plaza Group Home, it brings me such joy to hear Pretty Boy and Silver singing to each other. I wanted to share this story because Pretty Boy had nowhere to go when his owner passed away; he was a homeless bird. I envision the previous owner looking down and smiling as Pretty Boy continues to sing his songs. Thanks to all at the Plaza Group Home for exemplifying service. Problem
One of my clients has been sent me some PST files and I am using Mac Outlook. As these files incorporate some confidential information to which I need to access quickly. Can I read Outlook PST file on Mac? If yes then, how can this be done? Please, someone recommend me a simple technique for the same. Any help would be appreciated!

I just bought a brand new 4TB Seagate external HDD with the notion that I would hook it up to the back of my Time Capsule. I will want this drive accessible for both Mac and PC. According to this page my only real option then is FAT32. Here's my problem. When I open Disk Utility and select my drive, and then the Erase tab, no option will work for erasing the disk. I get an error. If I select the volume (indented under the drive) and the Erase tab, I don't get FAT32 as an option. I have the 'Mac OS Extended' and 'exFAT' as my only options. I can format the drive successfully using either of these two. However, the Time Capsule only recognises it has been formatted as 'Mac OS Extended' as expected. Can anyone tell me how I can use Disk Utility to format the drive as FAT32 format?

Complete with a revised, unified user interface and shiny new Dock, 10.5 broke the Aqua mold. As such, Leopard was the first version of OS X to break from the Aqua-themed wallpaper. It ushered in the “space era” of OS X wallpapers, which was used heavily in the new Time Machine interface as well.
